A dish made from corn and lima beans put an end to what started with a sweet dessert for Logan Turner on Friday.

The 11-year-old Agnew H. Johnston student got stuck on "Succotash" during the preliminary round of the CanWest CanSpell National Spelling Bee in Ottawa.
Ironically, it was another food that got Logan to the big event. He successfully spelled "Parfait" during the first-ever Chronicle-Journal CanWest CanSpell Regional Spelling Bee on Feb. 16.

Amongst others, the Regina finalist was eliminated for misspelling "cringle" and the Newfoundland finalist for misspelling "philippic".

Sorry to hear you didn't make it to the finals. I'll bet it has been a great experience, though. Hope you made some new friends.

I was so proud of you Logan. As one of the youngest competitors, you really held your own and represented your city and region extremely well.

Congratulations on your great accomplishment and spend the rest of your weekend enjoying our great city.

I will drop by and see you at the bee tomorrow.
