Turns out Logan isn't the only CanSpell finalist who has gotten tripped up by "succotash". As the Vancouver Sun explains, Curtis Bogetti was eliminated last year with that same word.

The National Post presented the 11 contestants who will compete Saturday morning in the finals.

A dish made from corn and lima beans put an end to what started with a sweet dessert for Logan Turner on Friday.

The 11-year-old Agnew H. Johnston student got stuck on "Succotash" during the preliminary round of the CanWest CanSpell National Spelling Bee in Ottawa.
Ironically, it was another food that got Logan to the big event. He successfully spelled "Parfait" during the first-ever Chronicle-Journal CanWest CanSpell Regional Spelling Bee on Feb. 16.

Canada.com featured a picture of Logan in their article today "Canspell contestants tour capital ahead of competition day". The story also hit the National Post. And when asked why other countries might want to store gold in Canada, he quipped "Is it because we're awesome?"

Spellers make headlines across Canada

The finalists for the CanWest CanSpell National Spelling Bee made national headlines yesterday, including Thunder Bay's Logan Turner.

The Ottawa Citizen's headline "Spellers get rock star treatment" featured Logan right in the opening paragraph. The story was also picked up by the Calgary Herald.

Busy bee: big week for area spelling champ

Northwestern Ontario spelling bee champion Logan Turner is not sure what the most exciting part of the remainder of the week in his young life will be.

Will it be simply competing in the CanWest CanSpell National Spelling Bee?

Or sightseeing and shmoozing with politicians in the competition’s host city, Ottawa?

Or leaving for his family vacation to Florida in the days following the event?

“It depends if I win (the spelling bee),” 11-year-old Turner said Tuesday with a shrug.
